Apprenticeship: Three and a half years
About
Roofers and Waterproofers install many different types of materials with the sole purpose of keeping water from entering buildings from any direction. Roofers install flat roof systems ranging from traditional hot asphalt built-up systems, more modern cold and torch applied modified bitumen systems, single ply thermoplastic and thermoset membranes. Roofers also install steep roofing systems including shingles of all types such as asphalt, steel, slate, cement, and clay tile. Waterproofers install below grade systems including hot and peel and stick modified bitumen, cold asphaltic, bentonite, and single ply systems.

The apprenticeship program consists of one month per year occurring between January and April incorporating 144 hours per one-month session. The classes are held at Local 182 Roofers & Waterproofers Training Center and include verbal, written, and hands on instruction five days a week until the required 144 hours are completed.
