Apprenticeship: Four-years

About

An insulator is a construction professional who applies insulating materials to surfaces of mechanical (heating, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) equipment for commercial and industrial projects. An insulator: 

  • Fits, wraps, or attaches required insulation material to or around mechanical equipment such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, boilers, refrigeration units, pumps, etc.
  • Apply jacketing (plastic, metal, etc.) to the insulation material when required for a vapor barrier and/or to protect from the elements
  • Must be able to perform his/her work without close supervision in a safe and orderly fashion
  • Ability to work well alongside other construction crafts

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Birth Certificate and Valid Driver’s License
  • Successfully pass a drug screen
Applications are accepted Monday – Friday at the Union Hall between 7am – 3:30pm.

Apprenticeship Training

Below are the training details:

  • 160 classroom hours
  • Minimum of 1600 hours of on-the-job training
  • Classroom instruction consists of math, geometry, fundamentals of insulation, construction safety, and hands-on training and testing.
