Apprenticeship: Four-years
About
An insulator is a construction professional who applies insulating materials to surfaces of mechanical (heating, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) equipment for commercial and industrial projects. An insulator:
- Fits, wraps, or attaches required insulation material to or around mechanical equipment such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, boilers, refrigeration units, pumps, etc.
- Apply jacketing (plastic, metal, etc.) to the insulation material when required for a vapor barrier and/or to protect from the elements
- Must be able to perform his/her work without close supervision in a safe and orderly fashion
- Ability to work well alongside other construction crafts
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Birth Certificate and Valid Driver’s License
- Successfully pass a drug screen
Apprenticeship Training
Below are the training details:
- 160 classroom hours
- Minimum of 1600 hours of on-the-job training
- Classroom instruction consists of math, geometry, fundamentals of insulation, construction safety, and hands-on training and testing.
