Apprenticeship: Four-years
About
As a bricklayer your primary responsibility is the constriction of walls, partitions, fireplaces and other structures from brick, concrete blocks, structural tile or other masonry materials as well as installing the brick linings of individual kilns and furnaces. Hand tools such as chisels, trowels, jointers, plumb bobs, mason’s rulers and levels are used along with power saws for cutting masonry materials. Pointers, caulkers and cleaners restore old masonry, maintain buildings and apply waterproofing membrane and caulking products.
Requirements
Bricklayers must complete a four-year apprenticeship training program. The program exposes apprentices to all skills necessary to become a Bricklayer/PCC. Pre-Apprenticeship training covers all skills necessary to be a first-year apprentice through eight 40-hour weeks of hands-on learning. Pre-apprenticeship training is held in March and April. Related training in bricklaying, blueprint reading, and safety is also provided. This related training is split into four one-week classes in the months of December-March each year during the four-year Apprenticeship.
